Tarkine Trails was established in 2002 by a group of like-minded, passionate individuals, with a focus to provide exposure from the threats to the takayna / Tarkine region through tourism. From here the company has evolved to provide multiple unique deep immersion walking experiences, both within the Tarkine's vast rainforest areas and along its wild coastline. Tarkine Trails is proudly part of Trek Tours Australia, continuing the legacy of offering genuine takayna / Tarkine experiences in the northwest of Tasmania.

Wild river exploration
Cruising the Arthur River is a truly Tasmanian experience, particularly aboard the steel-hulled MV George Robinson – a vintage beauty fitted out with local timbers and brass. It’s easy to be spellbound by the serenity of the ancient Tarkine wilderness. Time passes quickly as you glide past the dense riverbanks laden with myrtle, blackwood and sassafras. Century old Huon Pines can be spotted too. Don’t forget to look up for sea eagles and down for platypus.
The new Duck River Meadows Robotic Dairy is a remarkable state of the art facility housing the incredibly pure, creamy cheeses that are produced on site. La Cantara Artisan Cheeses are created from the lush grass fed cows, aged and delivered right to our consumers.
Join our enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guides and be captivated in the futuristic robotic production of the purest milk Tasmania can produce.
Hop on board the bus with our friendly, experienced guide who will describe the hump and hollow drainage system as you pass the fields lining the lane to the dairy shed. Observe some of the happiest cows on earth as they graze the greenest pastures and breathe the worlds cleanest air. Inside the Dairy you are treated full view of our beautiful cows being milked by the state-of-the-art Lely robots in our purpose built observation room.
The ladies come in voluntarily throughout the day for milking, snacking and well-earned head scratches. Learn the history of dairy farming and cheese making in the region and how this area produces some of Australia's highest quality milk.
The tour concludes back at the Duck River Meadows Pavilions where you are welcome to sample and purchase the unique range of La Cantara Cheeses. A wonderful opportunity to take home products that you've witnessed the entire manufacturing process from paddock to plate.
All aboard! The experience of a lifetime
This is an unforgettable experience worth of every ‘to do’ list. The 5 hour Arthur River eco-cruise aboard MV Reflections takes you quietly into the heart of the Tarkine wilderness. Steeped in myrtle, sassafras, celery-top pine, blackwood and giant tree ferns, this is truly one of the country’s last wild rivers. The day includes a rainforest walk and a gourmet BBQ lunch featuring local produce at Warra Landing.
Up close after dark
Grab your puffer jacket – it’s worth bracing the evening chill to welcome the world’s smallest penguins as they head to their burrows. The purpose-built viewing platform is illuminated with special red lighting designed not to disturb these delightful locals. Leave your cameras, torches and loud voices behind as bright lights and noise will frighten and disorientate Fairy Penguins. September to March rewards with the best penguin numbers. The platform is wheelchair and pram accessible.
