Stanley and the Circular Head Region offer’s some unique opportunities for shopping. Whether you are on the lookout for an example of original Tasmanian art, an exquisite piece of hand-crafted jewellery, or some other souvenir of your visit you are sure to find something to appeal in the range and quality of goods available in the shops and galleries. Check out the stores and arts and crafts galleries, enjoy the relaxed village style of Stanley’s main street, or for the serious shopper Smithton, the largest town on the North West boasts many fantastic retail stores.

Traditional taste meets modern convenience

 The Cottage Kitchen Bakehouse in Smithton is the place to head for traditional baked delights. Fill your lungs with the mouth-watering scents of freshly baked breads, hearty pies and delicious pastry treats. The lunch special is always worth a look – fresh country cooking ready to go. 

Smithton’s centre for artistic talent

A delightful retail outlet showcasing the work of local artists and craftspeople. Come in for a potter – there’s everything from prints and paintings through to beautiful knitwear, timber goods, homewares and accessories.  Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm and Saturdays 10am - 1pm.

A unique taste of the wilds

Local Smithton apiarist Rodney Smith is passionate about bees and has been producing local honey for decades. Pick up a jar of his nectar and you won’t be disappointed. It’s the taste of the wild. 

A treat for the senses

Shelves and fridges spill with the region’s best produce. Carefully source from Tasmania’s best producers, take your pick of delicious meats, pates, dips, cheese, preserves, jams, confectionary…the list goes on. There’s beer and cider too. Head to Providore 24 to fill your picnic basket with gourmet treats - you’ll never have to eat out again. 

 

Everything under one roof

Tucked in an idyllic position at the base of The Nut, the café and store is right next door to the Nut Chairlift. Serving great coffee and snacks, including delicious Tasmanian ice cream, it turns your climb to the summit into an experience. The store also offers a wide range of souvenirs, clothing and Tasmanian crafts. 

Classic country traditions

The original traditional red phone box makes the Stanley Post Office easy to spot. Still timelessly catering for all your postal needs, call in and let the friendly staff help you out - 7 days a week. The R.M Williams store is conveniently located inside the Stanley Post Office, offering a selection of quality clothing, footwear and accessories for purchase. 

The taste of Tasmania

In the family for generations, Blue Hills Honey is well worth a visit. Tucked away in the tiny hamlet of Mawbanna, you can pick up some of the world’s best leatherwood honey. It’s straight from beehives dotted through pristine rainforest and remote heathlands. The Blue Hills experience includes a café with roaring fire, giftshop, factory viewing window and a contemporary multimedia room.

Historic hotel merchandise and classic souvenirs

Whilst the historic Stanley Hotel is best known for its classic pub fare and welcoming country-style accommodation, it also plays host to a handy gift shop. Pick up a souvenir or two, or grab an extra beanie to take out adventuring. The gift shop also serves as reception for the hotel and its range of offsite local accommodation options including Abbey’s Cottages, Estowen House and Pol & Pen holiday Cottages.  

Local antiques, jewellery and collectables

If you’re looking for that special treasure, Crossland Antiques is well worth a stop. Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco pieces are squirrelled away within the walls of this delightful cottage on Church Street in Stanley. Jewellery, furniture, homewares, china, crystal and collectables – come and explore! Prices occasionally hark back to yesteryear too – so you might just pick up that bargain of a lifetime. 

A boutique treasure trove

One of Stanley’s treasures, The Angel’s Share is a boutique stockist of locally crafted giftware and Tasmanian spirits - whisky’s are a specialty. Grab a perch at the bar for a tipple, whilst perusing your eye across divine merino knitwear, jewellery, handbags, scarves and shoes. The home grown perfumes will have your senses in a spin. 

Spectacular landscape photography

Local artist David Murphy is renowned for his stunning local photography. The gallery in the main street of Stanley showcases a wide variety of his beautiful works. Ready to hang masterpieces are available, or you might like to tuck a print into your bag and frame it upon your return home. David’s works perfectly capture Tasmania’s wild heartbeat and his fascination with the sea is particularly evident.
